Causes of Depression and How We Can Help
If you need help, do not be afraid to reach out for help. There are people who are willing to listen to you and understand you. There is still hope.
Depression can be caused by many reasons, but some include abuse, family problems, racism, discrimination, relationships and solitariness. Depression is a key reason most people turn to suicide. Recognizing and defining the reason why someone is depressed can be tough, but there are some ways to see the signs. Below are only a few examples of reasons a person can be depressed.
Abuse is when a person is mistreated and can cause a person to lose self-confidence and confidence in others leading to depression. There are different types of abuse such as verbal abuse, mental abuse (psychological abuse), emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse.
Verbal abuse is abuse through the use of words either to manipulate or insult a person. An example would be through cussing or putting down a person with derogatory terms or phrases.
Mental abuse or psychological abuse is abuse through rejecting, degrading, and controlling someone’s emotions. Mental abuse can also be defined by emotional abuse. Emotional abuse can be used for power play and control, but is most likely found in relationships between lovers, friends, or family. Mental, Psychological, and Emotional abuse can come in the form of brainwashing, or abuse and control through fear, intimidation, or guilt, basically through a person’s emotions.
Some ways to see signs of emotional and mental abuse would be changes in emotions and personality such as becoming extremely passive or extremely aggressive. Other signs would be feeling belittled and useless.
Physical abuse is abuse through actual physical attacks by hitting, throwing objects at a person, or other types of actions that result in violently hurting a person. Signs of physical abuse would be cuts, burns, bruises, or any kind of physical blemishes.
Sexual abuse is abuse through sexual activity that is unwanted, improper, or harmful. Some symptoms of sexual abuse would be difficulty in walking and standing, refusal of participating in physical activities, having nightmares or bedwetting, and changes in attitude.
If you are a victim of abuse do not be afraid to report the person or talk to someone. Groundwire.net can also help you deal with the problem. God loves you and he will be there for you and he will be there by your side.
Another cause of depression can stem from anxiety. Ways you can tell you are anxious can be from nausea, fatigue, headaches, irritability, muscle tension, trembling, restlessness, difficulty in concentrating, and trouble sleeping. You do not hav

Company Description:
Groundwire is a media-based ministry that leverages mainstream media and technology to broadcast hope to young people all over the world.
A window of opportunity now exists for us to bring the gospel to a generation that is literally dying without it. Not with an invitation that can be rejected, but with an invasion of truth that interrupts the lives of people through the media they use every day. Our unique strategy - to “go into all the world and preach the good news to all” through media - is doable, cost-effective, and cutting edge. More importantly, it’s working.
Currently, Groundwire utilizes the following media to “interrupt the lives” of lost and lonely students with the message of Christ’s love:
SECULAR RADIO: Groundwire’s thirty and sixty-second, Christ-centered radio spots speak hope into a hopeless world. By buying time on
the most aggressive and influential secular stations, we proclaim the message of God’s unconditional love to millions weekly.
TELEVISION: Groundwire’s strategy is to buy ad time on stations that target youth and young adults. MTV, VH1, Cartoon Network/Adult
Swim, Comedy Central, TruTV, and Nick at Night are just a few stations that offer the chance to share the message of hope with our target
audience.
GROUNDWIRE COACHING LINE: Youth hear Groundwire ads on radio or view them on TV and are directed to our website (60,000+
visitors a month) to talk with a spiritual coach. Hundreds of volunteers form a team that offers coaching 24 hours a day. Students are drawn to the honest dialogue we offer about spiritual issues, often receiving Christ as their Savior as a result of our coaches’ ministry. We then connect as many as we can to local
churches and resources where they can continue to grow.
STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS: Groundwire offers our ministry partners and other organizations access to the Coaching Line as a tool to assist
them in reaching people for Christ.
